The Actress Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions across the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Lawrence

Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities have no real impact in any way on voter decisions.”

Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees over the years. Raised by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and revealing she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she commented that a Trump victory might signal “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

The star was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.

“The second term appears changed,” noted the actress of his leadership. “As he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Lawrence is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s drama in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her emotional state in rural Montana. At a media event for the project in Venice, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

She continued by expressing that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be accepted to the children now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

Lawrence attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, which was interpreted as a nod to the recent commitment signed by thousands of arts community members to boycott certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has rejected the story being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, Lawrence said that she did relate to parts of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, not long after filming concluded.

“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a medication called Zurzuvae and I took it for 14 days and it made a difference.”

Career Moments

The actor also mentioned of the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.

“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
